HRH the Prince of Asturias was on hand at the new Wembley Stadium to see FC Barcelona win the prestigious Champions League final. La Liga champion Barcelona faced Premier League champion Manchester United, either team would have been poised to win its fourth Champions League crown. Both halves were dominated by the Spanish team; in the end they won the final 3-1. The title is the most prestigious in European soccer, and arguably is even more impressive than winning the World Cup. HRH Prince Felipe typically represents the royal family at sporting events, as sport is a personal interest of his. He and his wife were memorably at the Wimbledon final when Rafael Nadal won the title and jumped into the stands to embrace the Crown Princely couple. HRH the Prince of Asturias was actively engaged in the game, rooting his side on to victory. As the team walked to receive their medals and trophy – the Prince enthusiastically congratulated each of the players and the FC coaching staff individually.
