SpaghettiOs attempted to show their patriotic side today by remembering Pearl Harbor Day on Twitter, but the way they did it is causing an uproar. According to “Fox and Friends Weekend” live on Saturday morning Dec. 7, many folks don’t see the seriousness, that should go along with Pearl Harbor memories, in a SpaghettiOs with a flag.

Marketing Land reports today that the smiling piece of circular pasta carrying an American flag fell far short of commemorating one of the worst attacks in history on this country. The picture above is the tweet causing uproar today.

Pearl Harbor shouldn’t be remembered with a cartoon character made out of pasta. The Campbell Soup Company is now calling this SpaghettiOs Pearl Harbor choice a “mistake.” The tweet appeared on the SpaghettiOs Twitter page:

“At the moment, the head of social media marketing for Campbells, Adam Kmiec, has acknowledged the tweet to be a “mistake.”

The SpaghettiOs tweet was posted last night and it asked folks to “Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us. This accompanied the picture that is causing plenty of negative response today across the social networks.

Here are a few samples of the comments that the SpaghettiOs Tweet gathered overnight:

Kenton Sheely wrote: “@SpaghettiOs I would really like to know who is going to be fired tomorrow because of this.”

Suzan Eraslan wrote: “.@mbrun12 I can't wait for the official @SpaghettiOs 9/11 tweet.”

Daniel Radosh wrote: "You want a date which will live in infamy? I'll give you a date which will live in infamy." --@SpaghettiOs social media team”

Some people thought that the bashing got a bit out of control and they tweeted their thoughts on this. There are a vast number of negative tweets about SpaghettiOs choice of depiction for a Pearl Harbor remembrance that cropped up right after the SpaghettiOs tweet posted. What do you think?
