Spaghetti is an Italian dish that most everyone enjoys, especially children! Spaghetti and meatballs are a universal favorite and most everyone who makes it has their own special recipe that reflects their own personal taste. What's more, spaghetti isn't a very expensive dish to make, as a general rule.
I have an interesting and tasty variant on spaghetti but you prepare this in the oven! The recipe, "Baked Spaghetti", is a recipe that is pretty fast and easy to make. It also serves six generously, so if you combine this with the economy of this dish, it can be declared an near-perfect recipe! This is a great recipe that would be perfect for company or if you have a pot-luck lunch or dinner you will be attending. This dish will taste especially good this fall and winter, as it's a hearty and satisfying recipe.
To begin, you cook spaghetti as the package directs. Meanwhile, you brown some ground beef, to which you add tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes. The cooked spaghetti is drained and added to the sauce. This mixture is layered with cheddar cheese. Once it's all together, it goes into the oven and is baked. Have a good salad and garlic bread on stand-by and you'll have a fabulous meal!
The recipe calls for tomato sauce with celery, onion, and peppers. This should be easy to find, though if you can't find it, the regular tomato sauce will work fine. Also, if you want to be creative, you could use some mozzarella cheese in addition to or instead of the Cheddar cheese. There's really no way to botch this recipe, so be creative!
A while back, I shared another Italian recipe, which was for "Italian Rice". This is a different way to prepare rice, so if you'd like the recipe, follow this link:
- 3/4 of a 16 oz. box thin spaghetti
- 1 to 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
- 1 can (14 oz.) tomato sauce with celery, onions and peppers
- 2 cans (14 oz.) stewed tomatoes with celery, onions and peppers
- 4 cups grated Cheddar cheese
Prepare spaghetti as directed on package and drain. Meanwhile, brown the ground beef and drain. Add the tomato sauce and tomatoes. Simmer for about five minutes. Combine the sauce with the spaghetti. In a 9x13 inch dish, layer the spaghetti mixture with the cheese, ending with the cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until bubbly. Yield: 6 generous servings.
