Space tourism is about to take-off in New Mexico. Spaceport America will be the first commercial spaceport in the world to house the world’s first commercial passenger spaceline company, that of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. The 18,000-acre site of Spaceport America is located about 60 miles north of Las Cruces off of Interstate 25, or closer to Truth or Consequences where the pick-up site is for preview tours.
The New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) is responsible for designing, building, and operating Spaceport America, which will handle both vertical and horizontal takeoff space launch vehicles. According to sources, the 2014 launch date for six passengers on Virgin Galactic is still on track.
Spaceport America Preview Tours are offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Truth or Consequences for $29-$59 per person, with reservations. This is the only way to see the Spaceport and is a peak into the future of space travel.
