Space Shuttle Atlantis makes Twitter history

Kelley April won a chance to witness and document history as it happened. The Northeast Ohio resident is one of a 150 people who won a chance to attend the NASA space shuttle Atlantis launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida Friday morning.

Thousands of NASA’s Twitter followers responded to the space agencies first ever ‘tweet up’ contest. The #NASATweetup open call awarded a select group of NASA followers the opportunity to attend a launch in exchange for tweeting about the experience real time. Kelley April bet out 5,000 other entrants.

April told Newsnet 5 hopes to inspire others to become passionate about space exploration; maybe inspire a child to pursue a career in science and math through her tweets. Sentiments I believe folks from the Cleveland Great Lakes Science Center and NASA Glen Research Center would like to perpetuate as well.
