A unique surf and paddle fishing tournament is scheduled for the Space Coast in October. The tournament challenges anglers to catch a variety of fish. According to their website, “The angler that catches the most species of fish to include tarpon, snook, shark, flounder, red and black drum, Spanish and king mackerel, bluefish, pompano and whiting will receive the top prize of $1,000 and be crowned the 2013 International Surf Fishing Champion.”
The tournament is dubbed Florida's Space Coast International Surf Fishing Tournament (SCISFT). In only its second year organizers say it is destined to become the world's premier surf fishing tournament!
The venue is 72 miles of Brevard County beaches, which is the home to over 600 different species of fish. The area is well known for its recreational fishing opportunities and world-record catches.
The tournament begins on October 4, 2013 and ends on October 19 with six organized events, including workshops along the way. Not only will participants experience world class fishing, they will learn tips and techniques from recognize fishing experts.
A portion of the proceeds will go to support Angers for Conservation’s Hook Kids on Fishing programs.
