“What waters did you do,” asks every man or woman of their companion while waiting on a comfy lanai lounge for a treatment after a Terme Roman Baths sessions that comes free with any service at Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea Hotel in Maui. Keeping with the program, I sat down in a lounge chair next to Richard where we were waiting to begin a couple’s massage and asked him the same thing. His succinct answer was “Hiss, splash, more splash, scrub a dub.” Hmmm, basically my man jumped into the Terme with all he had sampling all the wet offerings. I did too, but somehow didn’t expect he would.
Terme sessions start with a shower followed by a body scrub with an aromatic exfoliator (mine was mango). Then you are free to roam around the massive 50,000 square-foot spa, like a kid in a candy store, sampling all the hydrotherapy offerings such as a Roman tub, saunas, cascading waterfalls, Swiss jet showers, a Japanese furo and five specialty baths filled with island-flavored colored salt water.
The hour-long session whets or wets your appetite for your treatment, and Richard and I were ready for our 80-minute massages which put us right over the top of relaxation. His therapist, Heavenly was just that and more eliciting lots of aahs. Ditto for Helena who transported me to nirvana and back with a rhythmic rub that relieved all my tension and put me to sleep (not an easy task to do on a hyperactive person such as I).
It was pure heaven.
About Spa Grande
Extensive menu of soothing massage, facial and body care treatments and therapies using island sea salts and products with 40 treatment rooms. The sea salt story started December 2009 when the Spa Grande team traveled to Maui’s sister island, Moloka’i to meett with Hawaii Kai, Moloka’i salt masters, to understand the harvesting and healing powers of sea salt. With no polluting industries, no agricultural runoff, the waters of Moloka’i are among the cleanest in the world. Hawaii Kai is able to maintain the highest purity possible through its proprietary “Solar Seal” technology where Moloka’i water and the salt it yields are completely protected from ourtside elements and touch only food-grade materials during the entire “closed matrix” Solar Seal process.
In addition to Hawaii Kai, Spa Grande also partnered with Ala Lani Bath & Body for the blending organic herbs, fruits, spices and unique essential oils that epitomize each island.
