More questions from you the reader. Let’s get started:
Q: Is this the last season for Paul Konerko on the Southside?
A: Paul turns 37 before the 2013 season and the Sox find themselves in a bit of a pickle here. Everyone in the organization loves the guy and his production is still pretty good (26 HR’s - .857 OPS). But how much longer can he keep this up and is the club poised to make a run at anything in the next three years? While I think Rick Hahn would love to do a one or two year deal with the captain, if he hits free agency some club will overpay in years or dollars. That likely means the Sox bow out.
Q: How is John Danks progressing from injury?
A: He should begin throwing from a mound within the next couple of weeks. Thankfully when he threw back in November there were not setbacks reported. As things stand now, he’ll be a full go by the time spring training rolls around.
Q: Thoughts on the Keppinger signing?
A: Not a big fan, but the market was thin at the hot corner this offseason. The one plus is that The Cell should increase his numbers at the plate some, but we are still looking at a 32-year-old with very little pop in his bat over his career. Defensively, Keppinger isn’t anything to tell your girlfriend about. So in the end this is just a nice move that can easily be moved around should something better come along.
