Thousands of Texans poured into the capitol and other major cities across the state on Saturday to demand that their elected officials immediately deliver an ultimatum to Washington: "sovereignty or secession."
With the federal government rampantly violating their 10th Amendment rights like never before, refusing to defend their borders, and bankrupting this country with backwards leftist insanity, many Texans feel they need to draw a line in the sand.
Armed with a statewide petition to that effect, they called on their leaders to follow through on state sovereignty legislation passed earlier this year by sweeping margins. Overwhelmingly, the response from state officials has been supportive.
They have the backing of Texas Representatives Brandon Creighton, who drafted their 10th Amendment legislation (HCR 50), Leo Berman, who drafted a similar states' rights bill to protect gun rights (HB 1863), and 97 others who voted to confront non-stop federal intrusions. They also have the support of Governor Rick Perry, who signed HCR 50 into law in May.
Two gubernatorial candidates in the upcoming election, Debra Medina and Larry Kilgore, spoke at the event, along with a slew of other candidates for the Texas legislature.
With so much of the state government cohesive with the concerns of its constituents, it seems there is adequate vigilance against Obama's ongoing war on the Constitution and no immediate need to push for full-blown secession. But there is a growing sense that Texas teeters on the edge.
Incidentally, there are now 36 states that either already have, or are in the process of, passing state sovereignty laws pushing back against Obama's relentless trampling of the 10th Amendment.

God Bless Texas!
Is this perhaps why the ONLY Town Hall I have heard FOR obamacare with doggett had so few Patriots present in Austin Saturday? :) They were busy at the Capitol? Or maybe bussed in from Dallas?
You go Texas.
I am from Louisiana and have many friends in Texas!! I love My Country, The United States of America, I love My State, Louisiana, and I love my fellowman no matter what State they may be from!! BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA and His Leftist-Statist-Marxist-Fascist Administration all need to be IMPEACHED and thrown out of office. Enough is enough, and I salute TEXAS for making a stand. Now maybe the rest of the folks in this Great Country can follow suit and send a message to Washington, D.C. and the cronies that live there. WE AMERICANS HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BULLCRAP!!
I in Kansas, and I back what Texas Patriots are doing.
Go Texans
HCR 50 was not considered by the Senate and therefore not signed by the Governor.
I'm one of the 88% of Texans that don't want to secede. But, let me know when Perry is going to lead you all in the charge of Fort Hood. I just got a new digital vid and that would make for some cool footage. Just a word of advice, folks. From the looks of y'all, loose the beer guts before taking on some of those angry Yankee boys that are all revved up over there and pretty trigger happy themselves.
What a bunch of BS. You people are traitors to the US and it's as simple as that. Bunch of Cry Babies who apparently don't understand what Democracy even means. Go ahead secede, and don't let the door hit your sorry asses on the way out either. And when the next hurricane hits or when the Mexican invasion happens, don't come crying to us. You can all go straight to Hell.
First off, the US government should close all the military bases in Texas. After all, they are just federal occupation of sovereign Texas. Then, we need to stop all of the "evil" federal intrusions--you know, like social security and medicare, and the Coast Guard.
These people are either crazy or traitors--take your pick. Thank God that most Texans (and my family hails from Texas)are sane.
The joke is that Pres. Obama isn't very liberal at all! Nevertheless, I have never seen so many sore losers. If you don't like the electoral outcome, get yourselves organized, and vote in 2012!
Hey Mad in Michigan. Why don't you wake up. Why is it that the left loves dictators? Before Hitler and Mussolini showed how ruthless they really were the left in this country loved them. Now we have members of Congress such as members of the black caucus and other Liberals praising Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Why can't you see that the left is so against much of our Constitution, and in this case the 10th amendment.
If you want government health care then move to a state that offers it. But don't force it upon the whole country and dismantle the best health system in the world. The same applies for every other leftist power grab. This is why we have sovereign states! If you don't start demanding the 10th amendment then why not just role over and give Washington all the power and shred the rest of the Constitution with it
Mad in MI,
Texas is among the lowest states in unemployment and uninsured citizens. It is also a leader in economic terms and has been experiencing positive population growth while many liberal states have floundered. Loosing Texas would create a rather large financial burden for the rest of the states remaining in the Union. Your 'crybaby' comment shows a failure to understand why people are angry(ie historic debt levels, tax increases, and a massive power grab in violation of the constitution by the federal government) , implying it is solely the product of Obama's election to the presidency. Finally your comments about a 'Mexican invasion' (Ha the Texans would probably repel the attack, invade Mexico and have it running properly in a couple decades) or 'another Hurricane Katrina (1. New Orleans is in Louisanna. 2. The federal government has no responsibility, in the constitution, to do anything about natural disasters) show how intellectually vapid you and many on the left truly ar
Also we do not live in a democracy, it is a constitutional republic, there are major differences. Maybe you should read the 'Federalist Papers' and try to learn what the role of the federal government is, then you may begin to understand the anger many are feeling towards their government. Whatever happened to dissent is the highest form of patriotism?
Bill,
Obama isnt really that liberal! Are you awake?
This article makes no sense.
Sigh! Justin, one of the biggest employers in Texas, if not the biggest, is the Federal government. That is probably the greatest reason for our economic growth. Take away the defense contracts and poof! The major economies of San Antonio and other cities that depend on government contracts are gone. Good-bye, Lockheed, which is also one of our ten biggest employers.
To add to our woes, assuming we seceded, the government would embargo our oil rigs, any food shipments, medicine, gasoline, beer, and sooner or later, we'd also run out of Huggies. And they'd have a hardship without us? I doubt it. Less Medicare, less Social Security payments, less disaster assistance, federal payments for block grants for cops, firefighters, and highways.

That may sound like heaven for the Libertarians among you, but trust me, Texans love their creature comforts. This secession business is just one big mind exercise like Schrodinger's Cat. Even my Navy SEAL brother says he'd throw in the towel once the beer and the Huggies ran out.
Texas, you want to leave the Union? Can I call you a cab?
lol don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Secede? Fine with me. Please do, and take the rest of the idiot states with you. You can thump your Bibles, homeschool generations of ignorant children, and devolve to your hearts' content. My tax dollars won't have to go to make up for your lack of a state income tax. No more evil federal moolah, no military bases, no highway money, Medicare, etc. We will pay for a fence to keep yall from emigrating, though. Can't be having furriners coming to take our jobs and going on welfare, after all, can we.
AH ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. What losers. Seriously. I'm laughing at you and your small minds and even smaller penises!
At least Texas is taking the lead in this. There are 30 plus states just about fed up with the federal government getting their fingers in everything.
BACK OFF..... BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET... PROTECT OUR BORDERS!!!!!!!
Good, if you white crackers all leave Texas, that means us USA Mexican Americans reclaim the Alamo and the rest of Texas. Soon,
I hope!
According to the U.S. Constitution, secession is prohibited under any circumstances.
For states, the U.S. is like the "Hotel California". Once you enter, you can never leave!
Do you hear that Texas. YOU ARE FOREVER MORE A STATE WITHIN THE UNITED STATES.
Get used to it already. How many more times does the U.S. Military have to stomp on the South before they understand?
Robert Moon and his hill folk brethren can kiss my NY a-s on their way to Elohim City and the rest of his Tim McVeigh as-holes.
Maybe it is time these hayseeds and their vicious racism and their threats of violence get a taste of their own damned medicine.
Get the f--k out of the USA and take your toothless Klan with you, or be pushed the he-l out.
Where were you people when George W. Bush was bankrupting the country, going to war based on outright lies, lining the pockets of his rich friends, actually BUILDING (via KBR) those "camps" you lunatics love to rant about? Funny how the wingnuts and crazies were silent then. But let a black man into the White House, and Texas goes insane. Why not just come out and admit what this is REALLY about?
barack bush liberal? aint no change from the last moronic administration to this new one
they both equally suck
simce feinstein is so opposed to holder appointing a special prosecutor to look into the many allegations of torture, maybe he should start a treason investigation and begin with feinstein pelosi and cheney. that wouldnt be the end of it, but damn what a good start
Just another example of Texan idiocy. Didn't South Carolina try that secession bit at Fort Sumtner, South Carolina in the 1860's. Wasn't the purpose of the Civil War to Keep the "Union Now and forever? Did not that War prove beyond any sane interpretation that once you joined the Union you are a member "Now and Forever", that you could not just remain in the Union when only those things you approve of were done and break away from the Union when things did not go to your liking. What, in the name of sensibility makes some people so stupid?
If Texas truly ran the rules on how economics could be played within Texas, we would have the largest GDP in the country instead of the second-largest.
And have an even lower unemployment rate.
And a lot less illegals.
good riddance don't let the door hit you on the way out. The rest of the country is tired of supporting you red state freeloaders who complain about the govment except when its giving you subsidies and pork barrel funds. close all the bases in texas and cut off all military contracts with texas based companies.
They want to secede, well let them. The Texicans will get to see first hand how awful it is when you let wacko fundamentalists run your government.
We can let Puerto Rico become a state and won't even have to change the flag.
Texas ain't going nowhere. Heck they be just upset. They were too afraid to speak up against home boy Bush. Gotta save face you know. Texans have too much to lose, military bases, military contracts, large corporations. And yes sadly, I think really think it's more a race thing with the stirrers. Once all the normal Texans step up, these retards that they elected are history. Do Texans really think they are the only ones with border problems? Are Texans hiring illegals to make a buck? You better believe it! So it's pure hogwash!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it
"Thousands"? No. 200 people showed up, chanting "We Hate America." This is an embarrassment to Texans and to Republicans. If the vast majority of Americans could put up with Bush/Cheney's eight years of tragic mismanagement and then "throw the bums out" by working within the system to elect a sensible, realistic administration, y'all should be able to do the same.
I have always said that the Isrealis should leave Palestine, we can let them have Texas, perhaps they can do something with it!
Let them go and good riddance.
They're part of the idiot South that sucks in more money from the government (taxes) than they contribute in taxes. I'd be happy to see them stop sucking up my tax dollars so maybe my tax dollars could go to universal health care.
This article makes Texans out to be congenital morons.
DaveB: Texas is Texas and pays $1.30 for every $1 it gets back. Learn to your facts, moran.
greathornedlizard: Your arrogance smells of American failure, Texas will be here long after the USA has dissolved.
KP: Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Salvatore DiChristina: Texas joined by treaty outside of the original colonials and stolen Native American lands of the USA which stipulated they could withdraw. Do not confuse us with the Confederacy, even though I am aware the American school systems are atrocious. History, LEARN IT.
JJ: Yeah, Alex Jones and Ron Paul were extra quite the last eight years, who rock outside of Marfa have you been living under?
Jerry N. soriano: Sorry, we Tejanos will not let the Mexicanos have Texas, you idiots sides with Santa Anna when we told you he was going to sell the northern lands. You lost your chance for Texas and dignity then.
The notion is secession isn't real. It's simply an attention getter. What IS real is their call for states rights. The article includes a link to their pending legislation, HCR50, that puts the feds on notice that they intend to exercise their 10th ammendment rights. Just reading the article makes it sound like Texas is being a lone ranger. While their bill has passed one house, a lot of the media ignores the fact that seven other states have enacted similar legislation and passed both houses. Texas in one of seven states that have passed one house, and 19 mores states have drafted similar legislation.
Talk of secesssion is political theater, but the coming 10th amendment fight is very real and long overdue.
Check the tenthamemndmentcenter.com for factual information.
You tenther deather lunatics can have Texas. Of course, the US will remove all its infrastructure and you can be North Mexico. I for one will not miss your presence in the Senate!
Texas, making Oklahoma look good for 200 years.
Oh, for crissakes, let them secede and let natural selection take it's course. Only 36% of us Texans are of normal weight, and from the looks of them, these guys are the other 64% percent. They look like myocardial infarctions just waiting to happen. They ought to hope that there really are FEMA camps. A little starvation would probably get them in fighting trim in no time.
OK, soriano, Texas won, step back into the 21st century! Schmidt, I looked at the section about states, and did not find anything about States prohibited from secession (and plus, with the direction our nation is going, the U.S. Constitution is beginning to lose its foothold). As for Obama, I'm sorry, but he's a whole lot worse than Bush was; granted Bush was a retard. JJ, nobody's talking about race right now, get with the program! Russel, I'd like to remind you that Texas has already been its own nation once, it joined the union because it didn't have enough income after its war with Mexico. John, clever, but we aren't joking around here. Gwinn, when did we start insulting people? What does weight have to do with what anyone is saying?
Texas contributes alot to the U.S., it can sustain itself if it needs to: it has oil, farmlands, and all that great stuff, and I'm pretty sure that if they seceded then they would keep up a better border-guard than the U.S. is doing for anybody.
I wonder just how many of these ugly comments are from True Texans? I for one am a Texan, and if the rest of the country is happy with the way Washington is running, I say, I wish you all the best. However, I for one am sick and tired of what is happening to a once great Nation.
If it takes the secession of Texas to wake up the rest of the country, so be it. This is no longer a Republican or Democrat blame game, both parties are at fault for allowing others to tread on our Constitution.
I support a new Republic of Texas.
If you take away "the border" and all the military bases around us then Texas actually pays in a lot more than it gets back.
This is checks and balances at work people. The Federal Government doesn't JUST answer to the people, but the constituent states that came together to CREATE the federal government.
I don't see HOW you can have a problem with that.
Get over yourselves, would be secessionists. You're in dreamland. The overwhelming majority of us True Texans like being patriotic Americans. We love our country and when you idiots show up for the revolution, everyone else is going to keep on shopping and driving to their jobs. Like I said in the previous page, it's all a thought exercise. None of our oil goes to domestic use.
Strangely enough, oil companies make more money selling it on the world market where speculation drives up it's cost. And the government, since we're speculating, would have an embargo on our oil. Ever heard of missle strikes on refineries? As for farm land, we do have a great deal of it, yes. But, there would be embargos from McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Cabana, Coca Cola, Lays Potato Chips, and as I said earlier, those critical Huggies.
Again, this is one of the checks on Federal Power.
It is not so much an insult as it is an observation. Americans are fat, lazy and out of shape. And Texans and the Southern states lead the pack. If we ever seceded, the lack of junk food would have us crying uncle in no time at all. But, like I said, it's just a thought experiment. Secede, my foot. If we ever did, it would be a comedy of cosmic proportions.
