Someone who saw the incident that got John Lennon ejected from the Troubadour in Los Angeles 40 years ago today on March 12, 1970, says the scuffle that got Lennon ejected resulted in a broken glass that fell on the floor, a friend of the eyewitness told Beatles Examiner. The shards were quickly scooped by the eyewitness, but unfortunately, the friend says, the eyewitness doesn't know if the shards still exist.

According to the friend, the eyewitness was a friend of the Smothers Brothers and said both John and Harry Nilsson, who attended the show with Lennon, were acting really obnoxious despite being asked to quiet down.

“They got louder because they could when asked,” the friend said.

In 2011, Sean Lennon, John's son, visited the Troubadour to see where the infamous incident has occurred. Gillian Lomax of A Magical History Tour, who leads Beatle-oriented tours of Los Angeles and met with Lennon, described what happened.

He said, 'Hey, my dad got bounced out of here. And he said, 'Do you know exactly the spot?' And I showed him!" Lomax said. "He was just like, 'Wow,' I didn't know!'"

According to the account printed by Rolling Stone in 1974, Lennon and Nilsson sent flowers to the club and the Smothers Brothers with cards of apology the day after the incident. The card with the chysanthemums for the Smothers Brothers read, “To Tom and Dick: Please accept these flowers as a gesture of peace. We humbly apologize for our bad manners. Love and Tears, John and Harry.”
