Celebrate Chinese New Year at the Southtowns Chinese New Year Event on Sunday, February 9th from noon to 3 p.m. at Bryant & Stratton College’s Southtowns Campus, 200 Redtail Rd. in Orchard Park. Welcome in the Year of the Horse at this free event with Chinese cultural activities, performances and traditions.
The Confucius Institute at the State University of New York at Buffalo, EZ Mandarin of Western New York, the Chinese Club of Western New York, Gold Summit Martial Arts Institute, the Town of Orchard Park Recreation Department and Bryant & Stratton College are among the organizations hosting the event.
“We are excited to celebrate not only this holiday but the customs and traditions of our Chinese neighbors. This second annual event will bring together people of all ages and all backgrounds and we hope it will become part of the fabric of this great community,” said Emily Sheng, Founder/President, EZ Mandarin of Western New York.
There will be a Chinese New Year performance by the Chinese Club of Western New York and a Dragon Dance performance by the Gold Summit Martial Arts Institute. Other activities will include Chinese dumpling making, a Chinese tea ceremony and tea tasting, a chopsticks contest, a Chinese basket raffle, a Chinese traditional medicine seminar at 12:30 p.m. and Asian food tasting. Kid-friendly activities will include a Chinese arts and crafts station, readings of Chinese New Year stories, a Chinese language learning corner, Chinese games and a Chinese cartoon movie corner.
