After a crazy two years of severe storms and longer than usual emergency school cancellations, the Southington School Board voted to safeguard the kids’ April vacation. Students in Southington will not enjoy the traditional February break, but barring any heavy winter cancellations, the spring recess is still theirs to look forward to.
According to Bill Leukhardt of the Hartford Courant, “The April vacation, the only long break in the 2013 portion of the current school year, will be left intact unless winter weather forces the schools to use some of that time for snow days, the school board voted Thursday night.”
The board noted that with the end of the school year falling on the early date of June 10 that still leaves nine potential school closing days available before the April vacation would be tapped.
It’s a long stretch from winter break to summer vacation so for now and many families plan trips or outings during the weeks off. Southington students can rest easy that a welcome recess will be waiting for them in April.
