Southfield woman 'shakes her groove thang' for 70's style birthday

The most memorable kind of birthday celebrations are ‘theme’ birthday parties, and Sheryl Ryans, 55, chose to celebrate 70’s style at the Lathrup Community Room, Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.

Friends and family came dressed disco style to shake their groove thang with Sheryl Ryans, her husband, Bradley and children.

Sheryl, formally, Edith Sheryl Ryans, is a nurse at a Detroit area hospital. She and Bradley have been married 31 years and have two grown children, Bradley (B.J.) and Shanae.

Bradley applauded Sheryl so lavishly and eloquently, calling her “An angel,” and stated, “She is my dream come true.” Brad then dedicated the song, “You Are,” by Charlie Wilson, to his wife.

Sheryl returned to college to get a nursing degree in her 50’s, to start a second career. Sheryl is an inspiration to all. One of her nieces LaNita said, “She gives good advice and always has your back.” The niece went on further to say, “You deserve this and much much more.”

The DJ played memorable songs from the 70’s and television clips were shown of some of the most popular TV shows in the 70’s:

  • Dallas
  • The Jefferson's
  • Mod Squad
  • Archie Bunker - Most popular TV show of the 70's

The "Soul Train" line generated a lot of attention from party-goers as they all lined up to strut their best moves down the line.

Events of Excellence Catering catered the food, and Cake Luv CupCakery & Custom Cakes prepared the cake, Southfield, Sherwood Square Shopping Center.

Congratulations Sheryl, on 55 years of living and giving.
