Southfield lawyer Nathan French suspended again

Nathan S. French, a Southfield lawyer, has received a three-year suspension from the practice of law, the State of Michigan Attorney Discipline Board reported this week. The suspension went into effect on July 9, 2014.

Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #76 found, by default, that French violated the Michigan Court Rules regarding the conduct of disbarred, suspended or inactive attorneys. Specifically, the panel found that French failed to notify clients of a prior suspension; failed to file a notice of disqualification in tribunals in which he was representing clients; failed to file proof of compliance with these requirements with the Grievance Administrator and the Attorney Discipline Board; and practiced law or held himself out as an attorney during the period of suspension.

The panel further found that French violated the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct concerning safekeeping property and fairness to opposing party and counsel. In addition, French failed to answer the formal complaint and failed to appear at his disciplinary hearing. His failure to appear prompted the panel to issue an order of interim suspension, effective April 28, 2014.

The panel thereafter ordered French’s suspension from the practice of law in Michigan for three years, subject to conditions relevant to the established misconduct, and directed him to pay costs of $2,331.10.

Attorney Discipline Board records show that French also received a 45-day suspension in 2009, and an interim suspension and a 180-day suspension in 2012.
