This weekend your favorite hiking spot may be shutdown, mimicking the government’s status, so come celebrate Southern Nevada Trails Day and discover new trails.

This Saturday, October 5th over 50 organizations will gather with Henderson Parks and Recreation Department at Cornerstone Park on Wigwam Parkway and Stephanie Street to provide informational pamphlets, maps, fun games and plenty of freebies to members of the public from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Southern Nevada Trails Day Celebration is our local observance of National Trails Day that occurs during June’s sweltering summer temperatures that dissipate to the low 80’s by October. This is an annual event that brings together local interest groups, businesses, and members of the public that share a common interest in southern Nevada’s rich outdoor recreation opportunities.

Multiple events and speakers are scheduled during the day, including a Family Fun Walk, raffles, and photography contest.

Retailers such as REI have been present in past years to offer quick bike maintenance service. Different organizations also provide informational booths such as the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership, Outside Las Vegas Foundation, Sierra Club, Southern Nevada Health District, Get Outdoors Nevada, and conservancy interest groups such as Friends of Nevada Wilderness and others. An Equine section is also provided for trail riders, complete with horses to demonstrate gear.

Southern Nevada Trails Day Celebration is a great opportunity to find information about local trails, hiking areas and volunteering prospects, as well as meet people that share a passion for the outdoors.
