Every now and then that little voice in the back of your heads screams at you to go on vacation. Not just the average long weekend at the beach vacation, the GO ON vacation. So that leads you to think where in the world should we go this time around. Well the answer is quite easy...Portland, Oregon. If you are going to head out of North Carolina, do it all-the-way.
With our convenient location in the state, we have multiple airports to chose from, giving much leverage to ticket prices and allowing you to compare locations and airlines. Southwest runs some amazing deals all the way across the states to the west coast. You may feel a little like being herded on a cattle car, but they do it with a smile and try to make your flight as comfortable as possible.
There are so many aspects of Portland to love. It's a foodie town, a health nut town, an outdoors town and green town rolled all into one truly beautiful city. One of the most fantastic things about Portland, it's a beer and wine lovers town. The Willamette Valley is just outside of Portland and you'll find hundreds of wineries at your fingertips.
A favorite stop is the city of Dundee. Quaint and picturesque, between Newberg and McMinnville and only 25 miles outside of Portland. Stops not to be missed are the Dundee Bistro for duck pate and home-made pizzas which conveniently connects with the Ponzi Tasting Room and Wine Bar, offering wine tasting flights, wines by the glass or bottle. A very different type of stop is the Riteway Meat Market where you can find fresh made beef jerky in many flavors, turkey jerky, pepperoni in 5 foot lengths and cuts of meat to take home for culinary art, even dog bones for your 4 legged children.
Don't miss the opportunity to taste some of the best wines this country has to offer. The climate matches that of France as do the quality of this regions wines. This makes for a great day-trip while visiting Portland, getting you out of the city for the day and into the fields of grape vines that dot the countryside.
