Southern California snowboard resorts open through May 2 and longer

Although Big Bear resorts Snow Summit and Bear Mountain have closed for the season, there is still plenty of spring snow in Southern California. Mammoth Mountain, Mountain High, Snow Valley, and Mt. Baldy are open for winter operations.

Mammoth Mountain

It’s winter in April at Mammoth Mountain. The resort received eight inches of new snow overnight and there is a chance of snow in tomorrow’s forecast. Lifts are open daily servicing a 9-13 foot base of powder, packed powder, and machine groomed snow. Mammoth Mountain plans to remain open through July 4.

This weekend in Mammoth is the 9th annual West Coast Invitational. Also known as WCI, the event features an evening rail jam, the new Eddie “Wall” Ride Invitational, and a concert by The Eagles of Death Metal. Visit for details.

Mountain High
Mountain High will remain open through May 2, making this the longest season in its history, according to a resort press release. After Mountain High closes on Sunday it will have operated for a total of 186 days, which beats winter operations in the 2004/05 season by five days.

Mountain High’s West Resort is open daily with one lift servicing 15 trails on a 1-2 foot base with thin coverage. Late season tickets are $35 for adults. For more information visit

Snow Valley
Snow Valley is also open for winter business with a 2-4 foot base of snow. According to the website, “At this time, we will be open through May 2 and there's a very good chance we will be open beyond that depending on business volume and snow conditions!”

Snow Valley will hold a Kentucky Derby Contest and Party on May 1. The celebration takes place in the Last Run Lounge with mint juleps to drink and the race showing on four flat screen TVs. Adult spring lift tickets are $20 midweek and $25 weekends. For details visit

Mt Baldy
Mt Baldy is open this weekend with a 2-4 foot base of machine groomed snow and spring conditions. Spring lift tickets are $27 for adults. Chairs 1, 2 and 3 are planned to operate accessing beginner through advanced terrain. For complete days and hours of operation visit
