The Southeast Asia is continues to be an appealing travel destination for international tourism with more than 90 million tourist visits reported for 2013. During the 17th Conference of Tourism Ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the participants expected tourism to increase by 12 percent this coming year.
According to the Strategic Tourism Plan for the 2011-2015 there are a number of ministries and departments who will be responsible for developing plans, policies and programs that will facilitate the development of tourism across the Southeast Asian countries.
The development of strategic plans is expected to develop tourism activity by addressing problems in regional branding and marketing, travel connectivity and facilitation, product diversification and standards, as well as human resources development. Ecotourism is also being recognized as an effective tool in promoting sustainable development through conservation of nature in leisure offers, as a response to climate change.
