South Florida unemployment rate increases slightly

The South Florida unemployment rate increased slightly at the beginning of 2014. In Broward County, the unemployment rate for January was 5.3 percent, up from 5.0 percent in December. It was at 7.0 percent one year ago. In Miami-Dade County the unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in January, up from 6.8 percent in December. It was 8 percent last year, according to an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the March 17 Sun Sentinel online edition.

The unemployment rate is still low in South Florida. And more and more jobs are opening up.

"I hope the unemployment stays low. It is never good when people are unable to find good jobs," said Heather Sampson.

"It can be hard to find a high paying job. I am actually working two jobs to make a living. It is never easy to find a job if you are unemployed," said Maria Perez.

"I think anyone can find a job if you really want one. I have received several offers," said Paula Cruz.
