How to have a garden when you have no land? Albert Leon found an ideal solution. He rents a bedroom in a house he shares with friends. He grows most plants in containers. If and when he decides to buy his own house, the plants will find a new a happy home to grow. Once the cuttings and seeds he started and nurtures into mature plants, he can plant them directly into his new garden.
Albert feels, “Many don't realize how rewarding it is to grow new plants from clippings (and seeds). A full-grown plant is not going to show as much change from day to day like clippings and seedlings do. “ Tender seeds are planted in mini plastic trays with covers until they germinate. Tucked away in discreet corners of the screened in pool deck are seedlings of tropical trees such as Mamey and sugar apple star fruit. There are small cuttings of Acalpha taken from shrubs in the front yard.
Touring the back yard there are more surprises. In a long shallow planter are loads of marigold seedlings. A baby bamboo started from a large plant on the property. A tropical Island of plants in a pool side planter softens the concrete patio. A gigantic Dutchman’s pipe vine planted in a large urn in the screened patio.
Albert’s secret garden is unique due to the fact he can transport it wherever he wants. Most of the plants are easily moved due to the small size of the pots.
