South Carolina State University orders campus lockdown

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the campus ensued a lockdown Friday Jan. 23, according to authorities.

Brandon Robinson a 20-year-old, S.C. State University student was shot to death by a gunman near campus dorms after an argument occurred, according to SLED.

According to authorities Robinson was having an argument with Justin Bernard Singleton, a 19-year-old from the same area.

Singleton "pulled out a gun and fired at Robinson, hitting him in the neck area," according to an arrest warrant filed by a SLED investigator.

Originally authorities thought they were looking for 4 gunmen on campus. The University thought it was important to call for a lock down until more information was known. Later Friday evening the lockdown was lifted.

Robinson, a junior, was pursuing an engineering degree and played outside linebacker and defensive for the South Carolina State Bulldogs football team.

SLED reported early Saturday, Singleton was charged with murder and arrested by authorities.

"Our hearts are heavy with grief and sorrow by the senseless act of violence," said Thomas Elzey, the universities president.
