The South Carolina State Museum will hold its annual Winterfest beginning December 21. Winterfest is the museum’s traditional celebration of the winter season. Families are invited to escape the mall crowds with a variety of activities such as crafts, special movie screenings, multicultural celebrations, musical performances, and several appearances by Santa Claus. There will also be, among other things, a Polar Express Party on Monday, December 23, several King Tut themed events that tie in with the Museum’s “King Tut: Return of the King “ exhibit, planetarium shows and telescope viewing (weather permitting)
The schedule for winterfest events is extensive and can be seen here. Winterfest will kick off with a performance of “Santa’s Christmas Party by the Columbia Marionette Theatre and will run from December 21 to January4 2014. Most events are covered through regular museum admission but some events will have an extra charge. Click here for details on museum admission. The museum is located at 301 Gervais Street in Columbia.
The Museum is currently undergoing construction work so the Gervais Street entrance is closed. Visitors may enter the Museum through the parking deck on the west, or river, side of the building.
