Get ready for Valentine's Day - or Un-Valentine's Day - with local poet, storyteller and drummer Lori Caskey Sigety at the Western branch of the St. Joe County Library on Monday, February 13th from 3-4 p.m. This event is aimed at teens. On Tuesday, Feb, 14, 2012, join members of the Notre Dame and Michiana communities in reading all of William Shakespeare's 154 sonnets. The third annual Valentine's Day Sonnetfest will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Notre Dame's O'Shaughnessy building at the great hall. While there, enjoy light refreshments.
Michiana Monologues 2012 will open on Thursday, February 16th. The monologues, written by local members of the community, take place at Northside Hall on the Indiana University South Bend campus Feb. 16-18 at 7 p.m. each night. Donations benefit local organizations including the YWCA, the Family Justice Center's services for sexual offense victims and the Elkhart County Women's Shelter. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased by calling (574) 520-4203. The Feb. 16th performance will include interpretation for the hearing impaired.
A performance is also scheduled at the Roosevelt Center in Elkhart on February 25th.
To further benefit the organizations that Michiana Monologues supports, community members can purchase items from CafePress. Those considering writing a monologue for the 2013 performance could choose the Michiana Monologues journal in which to jot down ideas.
On Saturday, February 18th, join the Hall of Heroes Superhero Museum in celebrating Wonder Woman's 70th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Hall of Heroes is located at 58005 County Road 105 in Elkhart, IN. A "Wonder Woman" will be available for pictures. Fans who attend the event can purchase comic books, as well as exclusive prints, toys, action figures and other collectibles.
