South Beach Wine and Food Festival is not just for adults anymore

It looks to be lucky number 13 as the Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival (February 20-23, 2014) presented by Food & Wine prepares to kick off in their traditional Miami fashion. This star-studded event has continued to grow each year, and with the less than ideal weather along the east coast at the moment, a few days savoring the weather, people, drinks and food seems like a perfect getaway for many this year. Always an unbeatable event, I was instead curious this year to learn more of the buzz being circulated about the family festival sure to be the must-visit event of 2014.

Venture over to Jungle Island to experience an adventure for kids of all ages (Fun and Fit as a Family) where host Robert Irvine has a weekend of fun planned with amazing visiting chef personalities while celebrating food, fitness and learning. However, this is learning South Beach Wine and Food style, so there’s sure not to be a dull moment. This family-friendly event is a perfect compliment to the other Festival, and sure to be a hit this year with team GOYA involved.

Beyond the thrill of the animals on Jungle Island, Kids will have a unique opportunity to explore the food garden, play sports on the beach and even get their hands a little messy in the interactive kitchen… oh, to be a kid again! Goya Kidz Kitchen will be at the heart of the action both Saturday February 22nd and Sunday February 23rd.

With an exciting lineup for Goya Kidz Kitchen, Saturday will be hosted by Andrew Zimmern at 11:00am, Robert Irvine at 1:00pm and Rocco DiSpirito at 3:00pm; and Sunday will continue with Aaron Sanchez at 11:00am, Robert Irvine at 1:00pm and wrapped up with an all-time favorite, Giada De Laurentiis at 3:00pm. Joining Goya Kidz Kitchen, there’s another exciting lineup both days with the Whole Foods Market Food Lab adding another fantastic element to the Fun and Fit as a Family celebration.

"We’re thrilled Goya Foods has returned for a third year as our Official Latin/Hispanic Food Provider,” said Festival Founder and Director, Lee Brian Schrager. “The support of quality brands like Goya allows us to continue presenting the nation’s leading culinary event and gives our attendees an unmatched experience."

As a bonus to guests, Goya has an outpost at the event where they will be serving favorite dishes from their Mi Plato recipes in an effort to continue promoting healthy eating. Mi Plato is an exciting program brought together by First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative in partnership with Goya Foods to further promote the USDA's MyPlate, or Mi Plato efforts. Essentially, Mi Plato identifies the nutritional value of each of the food groups, offers easy to follow tips and recipes for healthy eating, and converts the hierarchy of the food groups into the correct proportions.

In support of this Mi Plato initiative, the Goya outpost will feature Chef Desa showcasing healthy alternatives to children’s favorites, such as Black Bean Sliders and a healthy twist to Arroz con Leche. Joining him will be Executive Chef Richard Plasencia of Baptist Health South Florida, who will be in charge of serving an additional sweet fare; and Chef Richard Ingraham, executive chef of Basketball super star, Dwayne Wade.

The only thing missing from this all-star lineup of personalities and events is YOU!
