South Beach rings in 2013 with celebrities and parties

South Beach revelers rang in New Year's Eve 2013 doing the things they do best, which is by partying well into New Year's Day.

There were parties everywhere, both big and small, and, at midnight, throngs spilled out into the street. Cars honked, horns tooted, and those on the beach watched the city's annual fireworks spectacular

One of the hottest sports for New Year's Eve was the Catalina hotel, where party goers crowded the streets after partaking of a full night of food, drink and entertainment capped by a midnight champagne toast. They had listened all night to performances outside by the Spam All Stars as well as multiple DJ's inside.

The most popular feature at the Catalina New Year's Eve celebration was an illuminated disco floor, and the "Studio 54" disco theme was the giveaway that the person behind the festivities was none other than legendary nightclub promoter Gerry Kelly, whose similarly themed disco nights had packed his former club, Trio on the Bay.

On hand for the event, as usually befits a Gerry Kelly production, was the bevy of beautiful girls, as well as a celebrity. On this night it was Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, who greeted fans in a beautiful spangled mini-dress and graciously posed for photos all night.

Elsewhere in the area, Miami favorite son Pitbull held forth at the American Airlines Arena, and crowds outside the downtown Inter-Continental hotel greeted the descent of "La Gran Naranja," Miami's own Big Orange, which heralded the advent of 2013.
