Low volume triggered Justin Bieber's alleged late December attack on a limousine driver, a Friday report in TMZ asserted.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Bieber was in the back seat of the limo -- riding along in Toronto, on Dec. 30, 2013 -- when he decided he wanted the driver to pump up the jam. The driver did turn up the volume, but apparently not enough for Bieber.

An argument took place and it escalated into the physical when Bieber reached out his arm to turn up the radio himself, and the driver slapped his hand away. What then happened might make sense to those who real an earlier report which said that Selena Gomez has been pushing Bieber to take anger management classes.

A source said that Bieber then began shouting profanities, and then hit him several times in the back of the head. This jives with the police statement in the matter, which said that "in the course of the altercation, a man struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times."

Bieber's U.S. lawyer, who does not represent him in Canada, Howard Weitzman, said his client is "innocent," and that, at any rate, authorities would treat the matter as a summary case, which amounts to a misdemeanor in the U.S.

A source connected with Bieber insisted it was one of the pop superstar's friends, who was also in the limo, who hit the driver. The question is, is this an example of someone protecting the star, or the truth? The source did not reveal the identity of the friend.

Bieber has been scheduled for a March 10 court hearing in the Toronto matter, and a Valentine's Day hearing in his Florida case.
