It may seem strange to some that a genre of music called Americana would be so popular about as far away from America as you can get, in Australia. But those people have obviously never been to the Americana Music Festival or they'd know that Australia, and the city of Tamworth especially, is a spawning ground for some of Americana's hottest young talents such as Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson and Jordie Lane. Today, Aug. 27, Sounds Australia announced that they once again will be teaming up with the Americana Music Festival for what Americanafest fans have lovingly dubbed the annual "Aussie Invasion" of Nashville.
As has been the case since the beginning of Sounds Australia's relationship with Americanafest, the organization comes armed with a busload of the brightest young Americana artists from the Land Down Under. While some artists will be performing official Americana Showcases, the Sounds Australia crew will have events planned in Nashville from Sept. 17-25 across the city. Some will be free to the public, while others will require either Americana Conference badges or Americana Music Festival wristbands.
Here's a sampling of events being planned before, during, and after Americanafest for the Sounds Australia crew:
