Sounders hit road in search of goals and a win

Seattle Sounders FC (15-7-3, 48points) will be looking to increase its lead in the Supporters' Shield Wednesday night when it faces off against Chivas USA (6-13-6, 24pts) (7:30 p.m. PT) at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

The midweek encounter will be a showcase between the haves and the have nots in MLS. Sounders FC hold a two point lead over LA Galaxy and D.C.United in the race for the Supporters Shield. Chivas USA are the Western Conference cellar dwellars and have lost six of its last seven games and have not scored since a 3-1 loss to D.C. United on July 20.

Chivas have scored a league low 21 goals for the season and have been outscored 8-21 at the StubHub Center this season, and are 3-7-2 at home. Sounders FC on the other hand have scored 44 goals and find themselves just four behind League leader LA Galaxy who have 48 for the season . In addition to it's high octane offense led by Clint Dempsey(11goals -5assist) and Obefami Martins(10goals-9assist) Seattle goal keeper Stefan Frei has a league best eight shut outs.

Sounders FC have six straight wins in the regular season series against Chivas USA. Seattle is the top road team in the Western Conference with a 6-4-2 record .


Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa has been called into the Guatemala National Team for the 2014 Copa Centroamericana from September 3-13. Pappa will miss Seattle's matches against Chivas USA match and Real Salt Lake on September 12.
