The Seattle Sounders FC (16-7-3, 51pts) scored four first half goals in winning there third straight game and took advantage of a reeling and depleted Chivas USA (6-14-6, 24pts) in a 4-2 victory at the Stub Hub Center in Carson California. With the win Sounders FC became the first team to reach 50 points this season and currently have a five-point lead in the Supporters' Shield race.

Sounders FC forward Obafemi Martins put Seattle ahead in the 11th minute when he tapped in a Chad Marshall redirection of a Brad Evans corner kick. Martins had his second goal of the match just five minutes later when he slotted an open netter after a Clint Dempsey to Lamar Neagle combination play that gave Seattle the two goal margin and had many wondering how many goals Seattle would score against the depleted Chivas USA.

Chivas USA were missing forward Erik Torres, fourth in MLS in goals scored due to Saturday's Mexican national team call up. Carlos Bocanegra Captain and former USNMT player was also missing from the Chivas line up and more importantly from a defense that has been leaking goals faster than the Titanic leaked water in it's fateful voyager.

Sensing a sinking ship and running aground, Seattle Sounders FC pushed forward after Martins two goals( 12th season)and made it 3-0 zip in the 38th minute, when Brad Evans sent a curling free kick to the left side of the box and found a streaking Andy Rose who quickly swept the ball to the far post for his first goal of the season.

Rose was given a starting slot when Sounders Coach Sigi Schmid decided to give Gonzalo Pineda a day off . Rose had his second goal of the game and season four minutes later when he directed a Brad Evans free kick into the back of the net to give Seattle the 4-0 lead. The Evans pass to Rose was his third assist in the first half tying him for the MLS record for assists in one half. "Obviously it's a big deal for us to be able to get nine points in three games at this stage of the season is invaluable, especially with the quick turnaround and travel, "Evans said after the game.

Chivas USA pulled one goal back in the 51st minute on a goal by Marco Delgado. Delgado received a cross from Eric Avila and sent an acrobatic header to the upper left corner of the net. It was Chivas USA's first goal since July 20.

In the 60th minute, Chivas USA made the score 4-2 on a successful penalty by Ryan Finley. Ryan was given the spot kick foul after a Zach Scott's challenge in the box.

“Two different halves, definitely,” head coach Wilmer Cabrera told reporters in his postgame press conference. “The first half was embarrassing for us, especially when you receive goals on set pieces. It’s something we practice every week and focus on, and it’s about concentration from the players.”
