The match between the Seattle Sounders FC and Tottenham Spurs was anything but friendly. No one wanted to lose. Both teams played a fast paced, offensively entertaining game that was full of goals and school ground tricks.
The visiting Spurs took an early 1 nil lead in the 14th minute mark on a an exquisite Lewis Holtyby header that froze Sounders FC goal keeper Stefan Frei who could do nothing but watch the ball land in the back of his net.Sounders FC dominated the run of play for the next five minutes with brilliant back heels, no look passes and shimmy shammy moves that wowed the crowd but in the end it was all for naught as the Sounders were still down 1 nil
Tottenham defender Michael Dawson made it Christmas in July whe he took down Seattle defender Chad Marshall in the box and Sounders FC where awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute. The school ground tricks continued when Seattle’s Gonzalo Pineda stepped up to take the spot kick, looked to his left and chicly chipped the ball down the middle fooling Spurs goal keeper Brad Friedel who was leaning left . Sounders 1- Spurs 1.
The two sides went into the break on level terms and the second half began with Seattle on the front foot, pushing the ball up the flanks and spreading the Tottenham defense. Sounder FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso was given time and space in the middle of the field and hit a laser beam shot that turned Tottenham goal keeper Brad Friedel to stone and Sounder FC lead 2-1 after 49 minutes of play.
Seattle defender Chad Marshal turned from hero to goat in the 54 minute when he conceded a penalty by fouling Tottenham’s Roberto Salgado. Soldado wasted no time in accepting the gift and promptly right footed the ball into the back of the Seattle goal.
Both teams made multiple substitutions that increased the pace and flow of the game and Seattle took advantage of the track meet when Sean Okoli found a speeding Tristan Bowen open in front of the Tottenham to go up 3-2 with eight minutes to play.The gift giving continued for Sounders FC when De Andre Yedlin was charged with a handball in the box. Tottenham’s Iago Falque converted the spot kick to make it 3-3 with eight minutes to go. Neither side was able to outdistance the other the rest of the way and the game ended 3-3.
