After winning just one of their first seven games of the season, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers have now won two straight after a 4-3 shootout victory over the Norfolk Admirals before 3,820 fans at the Webster Bank Arena (WBA) on Saturday night. Two of Bridgeport's three victories this season have been via the shootout route.
For the second straight contest, the Sound Tigers were led by Mike Halmo, who found the back of the net twice in each game. Goalie Anders Nilsson made 28 stops between the Bridgeport pipes—and was a perfect 4-for-4 in the shootout session.
This was also the second straight time the Sound Tigers topped the Admirals in a shootout. When the two teams met on Oct. 5 at the WBA, the Tigers won a shootout by the identical score of 4-3. On Saturday night, Bridgeport out-shot the Admirals by a healthy 45-31 margin.
In addition to Halmo's two tallies, Justin Johnson recorded his first marker as a member of the Sound Tigers, while Max Sauve, Chris Wagner and Dave Steckel scored for the Admirals.
Next up, Bridgeport plays a three-in-three—three games in three nights, the signature of an AHL season—beginning next Saturday night in Hershey where the Sound Tigers will take on the Bears. Right after that game, the Tigers will jump in a bus and head home to Bridgeport where they will entertain the Adirondack Phantoms at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available at the Webster Bank Arena box office, online at Tickemaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
Group packages are available by calling 203-334-GOAL. And, with the upcoming weekend being a long weekend for most fans, the Sound Tigers will travel to Albany for a Veterans' Day afternoon matinee with the Devils at the Times Union Center.
