Sound Tigers 'Crunch' Syracuse, 6-5, behind Persson's hat trick

Fueled by a hat trick from John Persson—including the game-winning goal—the Bridgeport Sound Tigers survived a wild-and-wooly affair, eventually emerging with a 6-5 win the Syracuse Crunch before 6,319 fans at the Webster Bank Arena on Sunday. Anders Lee, Scooter Vaughan and Andrew Clark also registered markers for Bridgeport, which improved to 18-22-1-4 with the victory. It was the suddenly red-hot Sound Tigers' fourth straight win.

Bridgeport broke the ice midway through the first period on a power play goal by Lee at the 13:19 mark. Ryan Strome, the Sound Tigers' scoring leader with 40 points, was credited with a helper on Lee's 17th goal of the season. From that point forward, the game resembled a tennis match: back and forth; back and forth.

Syracuse responded just under three minutes after Lee's goal with a maker by Crunch captain Mike Angelidis—his sixth goal of the campaign. Then, two and a half minutes later, Persson picked up his first goal of the afternoon go stake the Tigers to a 2-1 advantage—a lead that held up for the remainder of the opening period.

The teams then traded two goals apiece in both the second and third stanzas, with Persson's third marker proving to be the difference with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Sound Tigers netminder Kenny Reiter turned aside 27 shots in picking up his ninth win of the campaign.

Angelidis found the back of the net twice, while Andrew Clark picked up a goal and an assist for the Crunch, who fell to 17-18-2-4.

Next up for Bridgeport will be a one-game road-trip to Albany where the Tigers will take on the Devils Friday night before returning to the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday night for a date with the Springfield Falcons. First puck drops at 7 p.m.
