'Sound of Music' star Laura Benanti uses Pilates and vegan diet to stay slim

During the airing of "The Sound of Music," Twitter was alive with the sound talents of actress Laura Benanti, who played the Baroness with poise, elegance and just the right amount of sassy chic. How does this beautiful star stay in such admirable shape? We've got the scoop here.

“We always joked that Laura was ‘fake fit’ — that she wasn’t as fit as she appeared,” Kim Shemer, Laura's trainer, told the New York Post. “Now she is.”

And that very real fitness requires an obsession with Pilates.

Kim works with Laura to do 45 minutes to an hour of roll-ups and other core strengthening exercises, such as "the hundreds.” The latter involves lying on your back, pulling your abs into your spine while extending your legs and pumping your arms 100 times.

In addition, Laura is a devoted vegan, enjoying treats like coconut-milk ice cream.

“I try not to obsess about the way I look,” adds Laura. “I used to be afraid that if somebody bumped into me, I’d break apart. Now I can handle myself. My spirit is intact, and I feel strong.”
