This week, Max Cavalera and Soulfly will return to the Treasure Valley in support of their ninth album, “Savages”, released in 2013. The band will shred The Knitting Factory stage, Thursday, January 30 along with local heavyweights, Black Tooth Grin and Krystos. Tickets for the 8PM show are only $18.

“Savages” marks a new chapter for Soulfly as it marks the first record to feature Max’s son 21-year-old son Zyon Cavalera on drums. It is also the second album to feature legendary bassist Tony Campos formerly of Static X, Possessed and Ministry. Campos is also the current bassist for Prong and Asesino as well.

Ever since the band's gold-certified debut in 1998, Soulfly have become deadlier and more dangerous with each critically acclaimed successive release and “Savages” is no exception. The record was produced by the world-renowned Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones, Soundgarden) and the artwork was created by artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for Sacred Reich’s legendary “Surf Nicaragu” cover. Guest vocal appearances on “Savages” include Max Cavalera's other son Igor Cavalera (Lody Kong), Clutch's Neil Fallon, Napalm Death's Mitch Harris and Jamie Hanks of I Declare War.

Max Cavalera made his metal bones in the seminal Brazilian extreme metal band, Sepultura. In the mid-80s, Cavalera and Sepultura broke new ground mixing elements of thrash, death and groove metal.

As if there was a more metal way to come into the world, Zyon’s heartbeat in utero served as the intro to Sepultura’s 1993 classic RIAA-gold-certified record “Chaos A.D.” Max would depart Sepultura soon after the release of “Roots” in 1996.
