VORHEES, NJ – Because of a Spokane Shock 55-52 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm on Monday, July 22nd, the Philadelphia Soul move into the #4 seed and can clinch their 3rd straight playoff berth with a win against the Pittsburgh Power on Saturday, July 26th at 5 pm ET at the Consol Energy Center.
After taking a huge victory over the San Jose SaberCats in week 19, 42-20, the Philadelphia Soul control their own destiny and may face the Cleveland Gladiators in the first round.
Since the Storm are fighting for that #4 seed to face Cleveland, Tampa Bay would need a win in week 20 against the Gladiators AND a Philadelphia Soul loss to Pittsburgh because of the tiebreaker that the Storm hold over Philadelphia.
Soul WR Emery Sammons spoke to Soul Insider on Monday briefly after the Shock victory and Sammons noted that the Soul just need to add to the level of credence that the team has had in them the past couple of weeks.
“Although the confidence level was already high for the past month, this loss just put the icing on the cake,” Sammons said. “It will help add the level of confidence we will have going into this week’s game against the Power.”
Out of all teams that are in the American conference playoffs, (Cleveland #1, Predators #2, Power #3) the Gladiators is the unit that the Soul would like to get revenge on after dropping both games to their division rivals by game winners.
As it was aforementioned, the Soul face their final game of the regular season against division rival, the Pittsburgh Power at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The game is catchable on The Comcast Network and ESPN 3.
