“Sometimes under the right conditions mystical happenings unfold, as if simply meant to be.”
During autumn in the Midwest, it is customary to take long solitary walks through areas filled with oak, maple and birch trees. One will stop and listen, walk … and then repeat. It can seem as if the entire forest bends, swaying with the all-around wind, as leaves vibrate slightly, just before falling softly and silently from tree to the ground. There is something in these moments that brings comfort: The sense of being alone, yet not really alone at all.
Naturalist, John Muir often likened forests to nature’s cathedrals – places where God could be found, as reliably and powerfully, as in any place of worship. The journey itself: “In contemplation, walking alone” could become an experience of unexpected joy and light because something of the Divine waited to be found.
“Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.” (-Tagore)
There is clearly something healing found in nature’s solitude. It speaks to all the senses from a soul-level filled with skillful direction. It becomes a holy adventure of “Teach, By Example,” as physical life structures itself, in terms of being functional and aesthetically suitable for nature’s landscape. A rich soil provides terrain for great insight/perception of Truth, wisdom and maturity. Sometimes, more is grown in the fertile grounds of a soul, to include unconditional love, compassion and kindness toward self, along with an abiding stewardship of others.
Harmoniously blended. Home base is really the heart’s consistent state of tranquility. It is wise to understand that the greatest test of spiritual development is one’s internal environment, as outwardly evidenced through positive and gracious qualities in daily duties and acts of life. Intricately arranged in carefully choreographed patterns, life evokes a sense of wonder at every turn, punctuated with memorable attractions along the way.
“Matter exists to serve the purposes of life.” (-Studies in Truth)
Restorative presence. There will be moments dealing with unsettling elements, while focused on sowing the seeds of spiritual progress. The old soul, with much wisdom thanks to maturity, gifts All That Is with positive impacts, when opportunities are recognized through second sight, in the present moment, and then utilized with great sensitivity to chart a harmonious future.
Life filled with gratitude to Spirit, along with a lot of joyful living takes courage and resilience blended with optimism. “When is this job being done well? When others want to relax and linger.” The mature soul has taken what is experienced throughout nature, distilled it; and then, by Grace, created a life designed to soothe the Spirit.
At the Heart of ALL Great Spiritual Traditions: “God’s work happens best on earth when it is done with simplicity and humility, only there at the precise moment when needed and gone just as fast.”
