Everyone likes to visit the smaller wineries and Paso Robles' Grey Wolf Cellars definitely falls into that category. Grey Wolf is definitely small, and because it is family owned, the feel is far from many of the larger producers surrounding the winery.
Producing wines since 1994, Grey Wolf specializes in small production runs. Winemaker Joseph Barton is in the second generation of the family winemakers, and the whole operation focuses on putting quality wines on the market.
Focusing on old world techniques, Joseph uses small, hand punched, open top fermenters. Aging occurs in both French and American oak.
Historically, Grey Wolf has focused on producing quality red blends. Two favorites are Lone Wolf, an engaging red blend table wine and Soul Mate, a blend of Mourverde, Syrah, Grenache, and Petite Sirah.
The Grey Wolf is part of Barton's trio. Other members are the Occasional label and the Barton label.
On your next visit to Paso Robles, mark Grey Wolf a winery to visit.
Have a winederful day!
