Vocal students from the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts (SOTA) are currently preparing for a spring tour to New Orleans. This tour will involve not only performances but also musical collaboration, master classes, choral exchanges, and an opportunity for in-depth learning about the city’s local history and culture. Since SOTA is San Francisco’s public arts high school, a major fundraising effort is currently under way to make sure that all students, regardless of family income, will be able to participate in the tour.
To this end students from both the vocal and piano departments have created a professionally-produced 10-track CD for the Christmas season. Entitled Peace, Joy, Harmony 2011, the album represents choral music throughout the ages, sung in four languages. All sales revenue will contribute to funding the spring tour. In addition, sales of the CD will be launched at a public benefit showcase concert at the end of this month.
This concert will take place at 7:30 PM on Saturday, October 29. The venue will be the Dan Kryston Memorial Theater at SOTA, 555 Portola Drive. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased through a Vendini event page. Copies of the CD will be on sale, and further information is available through the Web site for the SOTA Vocal Department.
