Sorrento Hotel Winter Series in Seattle: Drinking Lessons, Etiquette Essentials

This winter, the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle is offering two unique series, one featuring cocktails and the other manners. They sort of go hand in hand, don't they? Let's get to the cocktails first.

The First Hill boutique hotel is continuing its series of popular cocktail education and preparation classes from last year, simply called Drinking Lessons. The monthly event features cocktail historians, quality distillers, occasional guest bartenders, along with the Hunt Club Bar's mixologists. The 90-minute lessons cover the history and preparation of spirits and libations. The classes are on the second Wednesday of the month, with Winter Warmers in January already under the table. Here's the rest of the line-up:

  • February 13 - Champagne
  • March 13 - Rare Wines
  • April 10 - Spring Infusions
  • May 8 - Gin
  • June 12 - Sangria
  • July 10 - Rum
  • August 14 - Tequila

Business Style: Etiquette Essentials series launches

Making its debut this year at the Sorrento is Business Style: Etiquette Essentials, a series of quarterly etiquette classes geared toward the young professional. The series was created in partnership with business etiquette expert and coach Arden Clise of Clise Etiquette. Clise feels its crucial that professionals not only have strong technical skills, but polished "soft" skills as well in order to succeed in a competitive business environment.

During the 90-minute, interactive workshop (presented in a fun, engaging and non-stuffy manner), Clise will teach participants practical skills to help them present a more professional image. They will also learn how to feel more at ease in various situations, from a networking event to a business lunch. Topics include:

  • The perfect handshake
  • Business card do's and don'ts
  • Reception food and drink finesse
  • Introducing yourself and others with ease
  • Making an entrance and engaging the room at a networking event
  • Gracefully ending a conversation
  • Dining etiquette essentials

The first in the series of Business Style: Etiquette Essentials is Thursday, January 24 at 3:30 PM in the Fireside Room of the Sorrento Hotel. Cost is $49 per person, which includes the class and Hunt Club bites. There will be a networking mixer following the seminar, with a cash bar. Space is limited and advance tickets are required. They may be made online via Brown Paper Tickets. For more information, call 206.343.6156.
