Soquel teens arrested for assault, vandalism

Two teens were arrested in Soquel last week for allegedly slashing car tires throughout town and assaulting a driver with a rock, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is reporting.

Deputies on Friday arrested a 16-year-old Wagner Cottage School student and a 15-year-old Soquel High School student and charged the pair with assault with a deadly weapon and 89 counts of vandalism.

Officials believe the pair is responsible for throwing a large rock from a freeway overpass and striking a moving vehicle. The driver was traumatized, but uninjured, when the rock came crashing through her windshield.

The arrests were the culmination of a weeks long investigation that involved video surveillance, witness statements, social media information, and written confessions from each suspect.

According to authorities, the estimated damage was more than $50,000.
