Internationally acclaimed soprano Marquita Lister will headline "A Celebration of the Spiritual" on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Saint Luke's Episcopal Chuh.rc Beginning at 3 p.m., Lister will work with several artists on the interpretation and performance of spirituals in a masterclass. Audience members will be able to get a first hand look at the creative process for singing the genre. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
The afternoon will then culminate in a concert of spirituals, featuring The Artist's Group Chorale, conducted by Kelvin Page with pianist William Jones. Pianist Karen Egypt will perform "Magnolia Suite (Part II, No. 5) by R. Nathaniel Dett. This concert is being presented by the Ben Holt Memorial Branch of the National Association of Negro, Inc. Washington, D. C. branch, which was chartered in 2010.
