Sophie to act as Grand Marshal of the Mardi Paws Parade

Remember Sophie, the two-year-old Maltipoo that saved her little sister from a coyote at the end of January and ended up suffering the consequences? Well, Sophie is healed and ready for her new perfect family.

The Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) has selected the lucky individuals that will be able to take the sweet-faced canine into their home as their very own. To celebrate, Sophie will be the canine that leads the Mardi Paws Parade, acting as the Grand Marshal. At the end of the Parade route, the healed Maltipoo will meet her brand new family members!

The Mardi Paws Parade is the first of its kind for HWAC. They expect celebrators from all around to come and meet and view Helen Woodward Animal Center adoptables and alumni. Together the group will party Mardi Gras style. The grand finale’ being the icing on the cake when Sophie gets her new family!

The Parade will take place at the Helen Woodward Animal Center Cabana outside the Admin Building at 6461 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. The day is scheduled to go like this:

As with most of HWAC events, this one, too, shall be FREE. The Mardi Gras-style Parade will be the kick-off. It will be comprised of music, beads, well-behaved canines in Mardi Gras themed costumes, parade “floats” created from small wagons and pet strollers as well as the Center’s sheep and goats as they ‘hoof’ their way along the Parade route in traditional Barn-ival style.

The Mardi Paws Parade will wind up at “Bour-bone Street” down in “Cat-on Rouge.” Plans have been set in motion to provide a variety of activities for all of the New Orleans lovers that will be attending the event.

The festivities will be bedecked and bejeweled with purple, green and gold. Attendees will have the opportunity to sip on non-alcoholic Purr-icanes, compete for the “Best Dressed Mardi Paws King and Queen” (at $10 per entry) and take pictures alongside New Orleans style-backgrounds. Parade members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite “FAT CAT” photos which will be submitted from their HWAC Facebook Fans. Traditional Mardi Gras cake will be available for all to snack on – one cake for pups and one cake for people.

Per Animal Services Manager Ed Farrelly, “We found the perfect family for Sophie. Sophie has been cleared from medical and we don’t want her to wait any longer. We all want to celebrate and say goodbye and there’s truly no better way to celebrate than with a Mardi Paws Parade!”

Sophie will benefit from this event. So will HWAC (from the proceeds), their adoptable animals and the attendees; proceeds going to support the Helen Woodward Adoptions Department.
