San Bernardino is said to be one of the highest-kill rate shelters in California. With the city running on limited funds due to the economy crumbling, they struggle to keep the shelter open on a day-to-day basis. Many rescues and Independent individuals, scramble to save as many lives as possible in one of the hardest hit cities in Southern California.
On August 14th, 2012 bestselling children’s book author Olivier Dunrea’s world was getting ready to change when he read a plea of mercy on a friend’s Facebook page. Heartstrings tugging, he picked up the phone and told his close friend to do whatever it took to get her to safety. Anxiously he waited for the word that the precious little girl he had his eye on was safe and sound. Paying all of the expenses, for little ‘Sophie’, he flew into LA on August 24th, 2012 to pick up his little bundle of joy. From the moment he met ‘Sophie’ he knew change had to take place as he held her in his arms. Once arriving back home, he was determined to make a difference and started the foundation called Sophie’s Emergency Rescue Fund, better known as S.E.R.F.
S.E.R.F. is an organization that assists dogs in need. They work on supplying funding for vet bills, boarding, food, pet supplies, whatever the need is they are there for the people who are trying to save them and the dogs who are in jeopardy of being euthanized. Olivier had seen the need to assist animals in the hardest hit high-kill shelters in the Country and needs our help and support to continue to aide those animals that were dumped into a shelter or abandoned, neglected or abused by their owners.
How to help?
