There is no doubt that social media is being used in many capacities these days: some use it to promote their work, some to fund-raise, and some just to post an endless amount of selfies! Yet, Sophia Bush is one celebrity who is proving that social change can be inspired one tweet at a time! The actress is constantly using her voice to draw further attention to various causes around the world.

Recently, it was the Middle East that took the spotlight of her online platforms. The “Chicago PD” star went on a three-week trip to the region in order to increase awareness on the conditions of those impacted by the Syrian civil war.

“I love the Middle East. For me, just with the aid work that I'm doing, to be on the ground examining what's happening with the refugee crisis coming out of Syria was really important,” said Bush at the Maxim Hot 100 Party in West Hollywood Tuesday.
“I managed to spend time in Israel, Jordan and Turkey during the three weeks that I was there. I'm blown away by all the courage and compassion of all the people that I met there.”

In Jordan, Bush listened to the stories and hopes of those who escaped Syria when its civil war erupted in 2011. What touched her most she said was listening to the parents' wishes of peace and stability for their children. “Talking to the parents and hearing that they just wanted a better life for their kids; my heart breaks. They didn't want their kids to grow up refugees.”

Bush emphasized on the urgency of a serious effort needing to be made to help the refugees. “My hope is that we can make real differences for these people sooner than later because time is moving very slowly in their world and we can't forget about them.”
