The movement to stop SOPA became everybody's problem today as popular websites went dark in warning of what could come if the SOPA bill passes. Termed the "SOPA Blackout", when information powerhouse Wikipedia joined the list it became a world wide web protest of the SOPA and PIPA legislation, currently under hot debate in Washington, D.C. right now as Congress decides the fate of the free internet world.
The bold move by the Wikipedia community to join the black out spurred many large and small websites to take action as well. In addition to Wikipedia, the anti-SOPA blackout is being observed by Wordpress, Reddit, Twitpic, MoveOn.org, several gaming companys like Minecraft.net and Riot Games, and many other websites. Even Google has joined the anti-SOPA protest with a blackout Google logo on the front search page, and Mozilla is sending Mozilla.org users to an action page in observance of the black out.
For users in Philadelphia, most local websites are observing the SOPA and PIPA protest by directing visitors to Congressman contact information and petitions, but few, if any, are going completely dark. While most online resources are clinging to impartiality, happy hour special resource Drink Philly poses to its visitors this question against a black background: "Imagine If Instead of Finding Great Drink Specials, You Found Nothing...Fight SOPA and Protect a Free Internet."
