Sooty

Far from the chimney sweep that her name suggests, Sooty would have been more aptly named after a princess with her longish, black coat and her adorable round face.  She was surrendered to Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City in May 2010, when her owner moved and couldn’t take her along.  Sadly, she has been overlooked at the shelter for a year now – because her crate is on the bottom row, making her difficult to see, and because black cats just don't seem to attract potential adopters.

Unfortunately Sooty has suffered a bit from her long stay at the shelter and so she’s not looking her best.  Sooty needs a bit of extra help keeping her gorgeous coat clean, sleek and tangle-free.  She looks rather like a beauty queen deprived of her cosmetics and spa visits.  Shelter volunteer Jenny Furlong says, “Sooty loves to be petted, especially on the head and ears, and will let you brush her – in fact, she luxuriates in it!  She is a calm, sweet cat, and she watches the antics of her fellow shelter mates with a relaxed, regal air.”

Born in May 2006, this month is her 5th birthday.  She's spayed, FIV and FeL negative and is ready to go to her forever home.  While she might live happily with another cat if introduced properly and gradually, she may well be happiest in a single-cat household.

Sooty is hoping her Cinderella story has its happy ending, in a kind and loving home where she is treated like a princess and loved truly!
