Has your belly become a bummer? If tummy trouble is weighing you down, "The Doctors" offered the answer on their show recently. The secret: Find out which foods can both shrink and soothe your tummy.
Liz Vaccariello, editor in chief of Reader's Digest magazine, confessed that she had her own struggles with her digestive system. Then she had an "aha" moment.
“I had this eureka moment, and I thought, what if I can have a diet that soothes my digestive system and slims me down?” she explained to "The Doctors."
So Liz teamed up with a registered dietician to create her easy-to-follow, tasty diet. It incorporates foods that ease digestive troubles while promoting weight loss.
To help others benefit from the diet, Liz created a book: "21-Day Tummy: The Revolutionary Diet that Soothes and Shrinks Any Belly Fast" (click for more information).
Liz wrote about it for Reader's Digest, providing these four rules for soothing your tummy while achieving permanent weight loss:
1. Load up on magnesium-rich foods such as spinach and brown rice.
2. Eat plenty of anti-inflammatory fats such as avocados, olives, dark chocolate and walnuts.
3. Cut back on carb-dense foods, such as most grains, sugar and starchy foods. Instead, eat bananas and potatoes, plus lots of protein and green veggies.
4. Steer clear of FODMAPs, which are "the rapidly fermentable carbs or sugars that can play an ugly role in your digestive system, causing gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Everything from the fructose in agave nectar to the lactose in milk can be fast food for the bacteria in your gut, which is bad news for those of us with sensitive stomachs," says Liz.
By following the "21-Day Tummy diet," you'll learn how to minimize FODMAPs, then take a test to see which ones you can tolerate after three weeks. To learn more about the plan and get the book, click here for "21-Day Tummy: The Revolutionary Diet that Soothes and Shrinks Any Belly Fast."
