Bob Barry Sr., longtime Sooners radio play-by-play announcer was honored during the halftime of the Sooners win over Oklahoma State at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday. Barry has been calling OU games since 1961 but announced before this season started that this would be his last.
The Barry name is synonymous with sports coverage in Oklahoma. His son, Bob Barry Jr. is currently a sports anchor for NBC affiliate KFOR in Oklahoma City and will continue the family legacy that his father started.
OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione honored Bob Barry Sr. with a plaque and an OU jersey with the number one on it to commemorate the halftime ceremony.
Barry Sr. now 80 years old, has been doing radio and television for over 50 years in the Oklahoma City area and definitely will be missed next season as OU faithful have grown accustomed to hearing his voice calling football and basketball games on the radio.
