Following its Mobile World Congress reveal (MWC 2014), the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone is expected launch globally this month. As TechRadar reports (March 10), UK carriers Vodafone, O2 and EE confirm that the Xperia Z2 will be available in April.
Other than revealing that the “Xperia Z2 will launch globally from March 2014”, Sony has kept quiet regarding possible US release date details for the Xperia Z2. The dust and waterproof device supports the 4G LTE network bands of 3 major US carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.
The Z2’s specs include compatibility with bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20. According to PhoneArena, these numbers correspond with the following carriers: AT&T (bands 2,4 and 17), T-Mobile (band 4) and Verizon (bands 4 and 13).
Sony released the Xperia Z1 in the US as a T-Mobile exclusive in January and could have intentions to release the Xperia Z2 in the US at a later date. History tells us that the Xperia Z1 was first launched in China, the UK and Finland in September of last year. The phone was released in Asia, Canada and Japan a month later. Japanese carriers au and NTT received the smartphone exclusively.
Only a couple of months have gone by since the Xperia Z1 landed in the United States on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network. It’s unclear at this time if and when Sony plans to release its successor in the US as well.
