According to a report today from Games Industry, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said the company would rather reach out to indie video game developers to bring games to the PlayStation 4 rather than acting like a “gatekeeper” as they have in the past.

Yoshida said he’s proud so far with Sony’s efforts in so far in creating third part developer relations, heading out to indie gaming events to meet with developers and test great games.

Because indie gamers may not be so adept in terms of public relations or marketing a game, but rather more focused on creating great games, Yoshida said adding a personal touch helps bring great indie games over to PlayStation.

“If a Sony guy comes and says that we love your games, what can we do to help you to move your games to PlayStation, they're like, "OK, I feel very comfortable working with you,” Yoshida said. “Very personal level relations can be developed. I think that's really important.”

Yoshida said indie developers for mobile have a hard time in terms of discoverability because they’re launching games into a market place with literally hundreds of thousands of apps, and they’re rolling the dice to see if consumers can find their great game.

Sony is working to bring those great games out of the mass of apps, Yoshida said.

When we talk about being more open, about reaching out to indies and trying to get many new games made for PS4, we're not talking about these numbers. We're not talking about hundreds of thousands of games.
